The NIH/NIAID International Center of Excellence in Research in Uganda operates in partnership with in-country scientists to address major endemic diseases and foster research in areas such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and other Infectious Diseases.

ICER Uganda mainly engages in HIV/AIDS research, specifically in low-income areas that have been hit hard by HIV/AIDS. ICER aims at having the greatest public health impact in these areas. ICER collaborative scientific studies focus on HIV prevention, HIV treatment, HIV/Hepatitis B co-infection/treatment, Malignancies, malaria surveillance and drug resistance among others. NIAID has contributed both funds and expertise to help build sustainable research programs and train local scientists so that they are prepared to tackle HIV/AIDS and other endemic diseases now and into the future.
