Dr. Edward Kankaka
Dr. Edward Nelson Kankaka is a physician-scientist with a strong track record in advancing HIV and public health research in Uganda and internationally. He holds an MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he specialized in HIV persistence and cure research. Over the past decade, he has risen through the ranks at RHSP, serving as Research Coordinator, Technical Lead for Strategic Information, and Research Scientist. His research portfolio is distinguished by leadership on high-impact studies, authorship of numerous peer-reviewed publications, and presentations at leading global forums, including the International AIDS Conference and the NIH.
He has successfully secured and managed competitive international research grants as both Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, including projects funded by the NIH, amfAR, and the Wellcome Trust. Beyond research, Dr. Kankaka is recognized as a mentor and trainer, guiding graduate students, developing curricula, and training national health professionals.
