Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP) is a collaborative biomedical research and service delivery organization. RHSP strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community-based research, curative services, and prevention strategies in the districts of South-central Uganda.

JOB SUMMARY
The Social & Behavioral Sciences Research Officer works directly with the department of Social and Behavioral Sciences of Rakai Health Sciences Program. On a day-to-day basis, he/she participates in the department’s main activities which include research participants’ mobilization and sensitization, participants’ recruitment and interviewing and data management.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- To participate in ongoing mobilization and sensitization about SBS research activities within the study communities
- To ensure that all research instruments are prepared and taken to the field.
- To work with the HOD, fellow staff and community mobilizers to identify research study participants and to schedule with them when and where to hold interviews or discussions.
- To conduct all data collection, timely transcription and handling using appropriate and ethically sound qualitative research techniques and according to the developed research protocols and SOPs.
- To maintain regular contact with HOD and to pass on completed transcripts to him/her
- To bring to attention of HOD any problems that are encountered in the field
- To review transcripts and amake corrections on the script or/and to discuss with him/her any problems identified in his/her work. This may necessitate revisiting the participants
- To participate in developing, preparing and /or fine tuning the instruments for field work
- To participate in training for new and ongoing qualitative research studies.
- To participate in qualitative research data analysis.
- To keep proper custody of program property like computers/ laptops, recorders etc.
- To attend to any other duties as assigned by the immediate HOD from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE
- The ideal staff should have a bachelor’s degree in SWSA, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Education, Adult and Community Education,
- At least one year’s experience in medical research using Qualitative Research methods
- Computer Knowledge and skills
- Good presentation and report writing skills
- Communication skills and ability to speak the local languages. · Ability to work under minimal supervision
